Zaragoza, 23 June of 2023

Montepino, a leading real estate SOCIMI in the Iberian Peninsula, promoted by Valfondo Investment Management and Bankinter Investment, remained the company with the most LEED-certified logistics properties in Spain in 2022, according to data published by the Spain Green Building Council.

Montepino ended 2022 with a total of 16 LEED-certified assets, a year-on-year increase of 33%. The total surface area of these assets, located in the provinces of Barcelona, Guadalajara, Madrid, Toledo and Zaragoza, amounted to almost 578,000 square meters.

The SOCIMI achieved in 2022 LEED certification for four assets located in the logistics centres of San Esteve (Barcelona), Puerta Centro-Ciudad del Transporte de Marchamalo (Guadalajara), Parla (where it also achieved its first LEED Platinum certification) and San Fernando de Henares (both in the province of Madrid).

Montepino's portfolio management strategy -led by Valfondo Investment Management, a company with more than 20 years of experience in the Spanish logistics real estate segment- is based on the design, development and management of assets in accordance with the highest sustainability standards, an aspect that is increasingly valued by clients seeking turnkey projects.

Spain Green Building Council is a member of the US Green Building Council, an organization in charge of certifying and classifying the sustainability of buildings which issues, among others, the LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) sustainable building certificates.

Nearly 84,400 sqm of certified logistics area by 2023

In the first half of 2023, the company has continued to promote its sustainability strategy and has achieved LEED certification for five new logistics assets (four of them have obtained the LEED Gold seal and one LEED Platinum) with a total surface area of more than 84,400 sqm. These distinctions bring the total number of buildings recognised with this seal to 21.

In parallel, the company is working towards LEED certification for 13 assets that are currently at different stages of development.

Marta Esquivias, ESG Manager at Valfondo Investment Management, said that for Montepino ESG policies are not a goal, but a starting point. "Every step we take is imbued with ESG policies. Our goal is to create projects with high levels of sustainability and that generate a positive impact on the ecosystems in which we are present", she explained.
